About Thordor

Thordor was founded by Torben Prestwich, an experienced construction education and apprenticeship professional with over 30 years of experience across further education, work-based learning, assessment, quality assurance, and apprenticeship delivery within the built environment sector.

Throughout his career, Torben has worked with colleges, training providers, employers, and apprenticeship organisations supporting learners across construction management, civil engineering, building services, and construction support technician programmes from Levels 2 to 6.

His experience includes:

• Apprenticeship assessment and Internal Quality Assurance (IQA)

• EPA and Gateway preparation

• Professional discussion coaching

• Employer engagement and learner progress reviews

• Curriculum development and quality improvement

• ESFA, Ofsted, and awarding organisation compliance

• Construction training and technical support

Torben has worked with organisations including Derby College, South Thames College, Sheffield College, Wates Group, and a range of apprenticeship and training providers, consistently supporting high achievement and timely success rates across apprenticeship programmes.

Before moving into Further Education, Torben worked within the construction industry and film studio environments, managing commercial fibrous plastering projects, site coordination, estimation, and construction operations. This practical industry background continues to shape the real-world approach taken within Thordor today.

Torben holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Bath, a BA (Hons) in Education, and professional qualifications in lecturing, assessment, Internal Quality Assurance, and management.

At Thordor, the focus is on providing professional, practical, and supportive guidance that helps learners, employers, and training providers achieve high standards within construction and civil engineering education.
